COVID-19 Update – Event Cancellations & Policies
HR Conference & Expo
As you may know, on March 16, 2020 the BC Provincial Health Officer issued an order which states that operators are prohibited from permitting the gathering of more than 50 people. Currently, this order expires on May 31, 2020 – subject to revision, cancellation or extension by the Provincial Health Officer.
As a result, we unfortunately have no choice but to cancel our annual HR Conference & Expo scheduled for April 28 & 29. We are aware that many of you were looking forward to Conference and want you to know that we are putting together some exciting and informative virtual learning opportunities for the weeks and months ahead. We hope you will take advantage of these online learning events to gather your CPD hours, gain insight from the experts and connect with the HR community.
For those who have registered for conference we are going to cancel your registration and credit your CPHR BC & Yukon account for the amount you paid. That credit can be used to secure a registration for next year’s conference May 11 & 12, 2021 at no additional costs. The credit can also be used towards any of our other services i.e. membership, events and PD, online and in-person. You are also entitled to a full refund. If you choose the refund option, please let us know in writing, or EMAIL of this choice, so we have a permanent record. It may take us a few business days to process your request. We appreciate your patience.
We have cancelled the following upcoming Legal Symposiums:
- Northern Legal Symposium April 3
- Vancouver Island Legal Symposium May 8
- Interior Legal Symposium May 22
- Fraser Valley Legal Symposium May 29
All registrants will be issued a credit to their CPHR BC & Yukon account. The credit can also be used towards other PD, online and in-person. You are also entitled to a full refund. If you choose the refund option, please let us know in writing, or EMAIL of this choice, so we have a permanent record.
We will be posting online learning opportunities in the coming weeks.
We have cancelled all the in-person events through May 31, 2020.
All registrants will be issued a credit (where applicable) to their CPHR BC & Yukon account. The credit can also be used towards other PD, online and in-person. You are also entitled to a full refund. If you choose the refund option, please let us know in writing, or email of this choice, so we have a permanent record. Below is a list of regional contacts:

National Knowledge Exam
At the moment the NKE is still scheduled for May 29, 2020. It is important to note that the National Knowledge Exam (NKE), administered by CPHR Canada, has not been cancelled or postponed. CPHR Canada is monitoring the situation carefully and is working closely with their exam vendor to determine contingency plans. With the exam still two and a half months away, there is time to evaluate a number of options. At present, CPHR BC & Yukon is still accepting registrations for the May 29 NKE. The registration deadline remains March 30. The cancellation deadline (with full refund) remains March 30.
Should the NKE be postponed, we will notify registrants of the new date and provide options for those who are unable to write on the new date. As we know more, we will continue to update exam registrants.
We are in the process of looking at how we can recognize our award finalists and FCPHRs. We plan to acknowledge our award recipients in the next few months so stayed tuned for more information.
Lastly, we would like to thank you for your patronage and support. As the voice of HR in BC and the Yukon, we endeavor to provide high level learning and networking opportunities to the HR community. You can rely on the fact that our HR Conference and our other PD options will continue to promote and enhance the profession, and support you in advancing your career.
At this very unique and unprecedented time, we remind you to stay safe and supportive of those around you, and we leave you with this thought: while social distancing is a new norm, human interaction via other means should never be forgotten.
